Before new renters move into a home, the electrical system deserves a hard look. Not a quick glance - a real walkthrough. That's exactly what we did here in Lake Stevens. Loose outlets, missing GFCI protection, outdated smoke detectors, abandoned wiring still connected to the panel. None of it is dramatic on its own, but all of it adds up to a home that isn't as safe as it should be.

We tightened up loose outlets and added proper GFCI protection where it was needed. GFCI outlets are the ones with the test and reset buttons - they're required in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry areas, and garages because they cut power instantly if they detect a ground fault. That's the kind of protection that prevents serious injuries. If a rental doesn't have them in the right spots, it's not just a code issue. It's a liability issue.

The smoke detectors got updated too. Old detectors lose sensitivity over time and most manufacturers recommend replacing them every 10 years. Fresh units, properly mounted and confirmed working - that's the standard we hold to. Small thing. Big deal if it ever has to do its job.

Then there was the abandoned wiring. Old conduit runs and junction boxes that weren't serving anything anymore, still sitting on the exterior of the house. We pulled it all out. Dead wiring left in place is a hidden problem - it's confusing during any future electrical work and can be a safety concern depending on how it was left. Getting rid of it cleans things up and removes the guesswork. We also checked the panel labeling, because a panel you can't read is a panel you can't trust in an emergency.
